Lunches, Dinners and more..

I love hosting! Whether it is having people over for brunch, lunch, afternoon tea or dinner, I love the excitement of planning a menu and preparing the dishes to be enjoyed with our guests. Over the last 6 weeks, I have hosted 3 pool parties, 1 family brunch (Paranthas for Papas) and 2 dinner parties despite being out of town for 3 weekends in the middle. Our home functions at elevated energy levels to prepare before guests arrive and a calm descends the moment we hear the doorbell. Everything is prepped by that time and I am in hostess mode with a glass of wine with music playing in the background expertly curated by my husband. Enjoying a meal with friends and family after a long day preparing it over jokes and anecdotes truly makes my heart happy.

I have also been meeting friends, some I hadn’t seen in a long time. The conversations have been wonderful and have ranged from ” does life need a purpose” during lunch in Tribecca to reminiscing about dorm life with a college friend who visited Dallas. I feel fortunate to know people who lead enriched lives built on their passions and individuality.

There have also been coffee dates in the middle and while most of them have been about catching up, one of them was not. Met one of my oldest friends after 7 months a few days ago. Our last conversation was difficult and I reached out thinking enough time had passed. Turns out we are still on very different pages. I think deep down I knew that for a few years but the realization truly dawned during our coffee meetup. Sometimes no matter how hard you try, you just can’t understand how the other person thinks. We agreed to pause for more time. She has embarked on a journey and I wish her well. She knows I will be here whenever she needs me, till then, I just have to be patient and hope that we can reconnect. As an army brat, I believe that some friendships come with an expiration date. However, this one isn’t one of them!
